Wool pointe pads

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 4:21 PM
Hello all,

I have been searching my local shops about where to find wool pointe pads. Usually people recommend ouch pouches or silicone, but I still prefer those. And apparentely there aren't much in my case because the last shop I asked said they stopped selling them. =/

If you don't know what I'm referring to, it's the same shape as an ouch pouch, the exterior is pretty rough fabric-like and the inside is lined with soft curly wool thing.
Does anyone have a reference to an online shop that might sell them? Or maybe the right word, because I tried google, but it didn't yield all that much.

Dark Horse covers

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 7:46 AM
Does anyone know of a good source page in which I could find decent scans of the Dark Horse adaptations of Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy books?

+ correct me if I'm wrong, but it was only Heir to the Empire and Dark Force Rising that were adapted by Dark Horse, correct?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can find me these!

Gap made Steampunk clothing for kids.

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 2:35 AM
If you can find it still find it in the stores
stella-mccartney-x-gap-kids-04

Stella McCartney has made a fabulous collection for Gap Kids with these two coats and much more for kids from very little to about 12 years old size. Hell I am short enough to hunt about and find the military jacket to see if it would fit as a crop coat but it looks like its already a super hard jacket to find and probaly even harder in there largest kid size to see if short people could make it work.

You can find parts and bits of the new line here
http://www.gap.com/browse/info.do?cid=51415&mlink=6170,1488341,1&clink=1488341
People with children or are short enough to wear this post photos of you get your kid or yourself in that military jacket.
The most important video you'll ever see...
Ever wonder what reports on growth rates really mean? Dr. Bartlett concisely explains the arithmetic that refutes the popular political arguments relating to population growth and consumption of energy. And then relates that to the consumption-obsessed society Americans live and participate in. It's the simple math that really gets me - and how often we hear things in the media without really thinking about how it adds up. Or multiplies... or exponentially increases. :)

An argument on Global Warming from a "risk management" perspective.

Also, a couple of links regarding devaluation of the US Dollar:
Inflation and our "funny money" supply
http://chasblogspot.blogspot.com/2009/01/what-would-us-currency-collapse-look.html
These are both interesting, even if you don't believe that the dollar collapse is imminent. It's a worst case scenario, obviously, but poses a significant risk as dependent as we are on the government and the network of the crucial components of our lives. Energy, sewer systems, roads, and communication including the Internet. Not to be scared, because fear is ultimately worthless without action. I have a feeling our way of life is going to change significantly in the next 5-10 years whether voluntary or not. We might as well begin our own changes for the better. Can't hurt.

"The chief source of problems is solutions." (This was from the first video I linked to above, and it's so true! At every level, from my own employer to the government itself.)

Survey for Zutara hypothesis

  • Nov. 9th, 2009 at 2:07 PM
So I came up with a hypothesis regarding the origins of Zutara a few years ago now and I really want to get this niggly feeling off my chest by either confirming or disproving it in a poll. You maybe wondering what is the relevance between Jake Long and Zuko or Katara and Rose, I won't reveal this tiny bit of trivia for the results but I'd suggest doing a quick wikipedia search on Dante Basco's filmography if you really want to know. Preferably after answering the survey.Poll #1482730 American Dragon cause of Zutara?
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 63

As a Zutara fan do you also like Jake/Rose in American Dragon?

Somehow 15 min. early for practice despite leaving late. I suspect a math error. Inexplicable, but so is much of my reality if examined too closely. Been thinky today, ranting to myself in the car as I do when alone. Pondering on the inherent power of objects, the nature of "home", the complete meaninglessness of
marriage in our society-- prompted both by the ridiculous fuckery of "marriage equality", because asking the majority to vote in favor of civil rights for the minority isn't at all ridiculous, natch-- and by attending a divorce party last night. Poor guy married his high school sweetheart, who waited 3 years before developing her adult personality, which turned out to be "crazy"-- and took him for everything he had. What a dumb situation. I don't have the thumb strength to go on, but think about it. The 20th century notion of marriage we're clinging to was obsolete when it began. But anyway.
Can you tell that was my most recent rant? Freshest in my mind.
But most of the day I was pondering how we give souls to objects by our use of them as keystones for memory. There was more to that, but I got internally sidetracked thinking of beliefs and how I deal with contradictions thereof. I thought about gears or transmissions, how there's a certain amount of slippage built in to allow two unsynchronized gears to mesh and engage-- I need to look up how that's done, so I can better analogize how I manage to believe so many things at once.
I'm rambling as I wait for the rink parking lot to empty. I might see if I can get in now...

Broke 10,000 so far today. I'll probably update this again a little bit later, after I've done some more work on it.

Still working on Belle. I'm hoping I'll have her done by tomorrow, but we'll have to see. The car needs to go in for an oil change tomorrow (the oil light is on, so we can't wait any longer), so I know I'm going to be spending a fair portion of the day out of the house. I'm going to do some more work on her tonight, but I know I'm not going to have her finished before I go to bed.

Maybe more later. For now, it's time for dinner.

Beecake just tweeted....

Working Students?

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 3:53 PM
So, I've been considering joining a working student program sometime in the near-ish future, but not exactly sure where. I've just started looking into this, so, any suggestions(or warnings, lol) of places(in the US) to check out?
I'd also just like to hear your guys' stories, have you ever been involved in one, where, what was it like, what have you heard about so-and-so, etc.?
Two places I've been looking at so far are:
www.teamceoeventing.com/workingstudents.html and www.teamwindchase.com/wstudent%20.htm
would be especially helpful if anyone has any personal experience with these places/people :]
